The Hives hosted a last-minute concert at the leadmill in sheffield, so last minutes the tickets went on sale the day before the gig took place and sold out in less than a minute.
The Hives are a Swedish rock band who first came to popularity in the 90s with the song Hate to Say I Told You So. The band was not just popular but have consisted a large fan base, especially with their recent album release, The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons which features songs such as Bogus Operandi and Countdown to Shutdown.
The lead in the band, Pelle, settled into sheffield a few hours before the gig, stood outside of sheffield train station on Instagram lives.
Before the Hives came on the support act was on. Bad Nerve was supporting the Hives and it was the first time I had heard of Bad Nerve but I can say I enjoyed it. I can see why the Hives brought them along because of their fast-paced rock music. This music got the crowd ready for a night of rock. The Hives came onto the stage with their trademark black and white suits. In an interview with Pelle he explains the meaning of the suits is that he believes music performances is an entertainment and he likes the showmanship that comes with the outfits. In the same interview, he also talks about his on-stage performance, He says he needs to feel something and this explains why Pelle is so energetic and sporadic. The last time he was in sheffield he was supporting the Arctic Monkeys in Hillsborough where he was jumping around the stage and having crowd surfs and on the same tour, he made himself bleed by accidentally hitting himself with a microphone. So it came as no shock when Pelle was up to his same antics.
The atmosphere was great, the room was packed and people were jumping up and down to the rock and roll. The set list was great consisting of Bogus Operandi, Main Offender, Two Kinds of Trouble, Rigor Mortis Radio, Walk Idiot Walk, Good Samaritan, Go Right Ahead, Stick Up Hate, to Say I Told You So, Trapdoor Solution, I'm Alive, Countdown to Shutdown and an encore of Come On!, Smoke & Mirrors, Tick Tick Boom, Nobody Does It Better.
